Percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), commonly known as coronary angioplasty or simply angioplasty, is a non-surgical procedure used to treat narrowed coronary arteries of the heart.

Angioplasty is a process where an atherosclerotic blockage is molded into the walls of a blood vessel using a catheter with an inflatable balloon tip. If the blockage is flow limiting, this process can improve the circulation.Usually a stent is also placed to help keep the artery open.

PCI is best. Primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) is the recommended method of reperfusion when it can be performed in a timely fashion by experienced operators with an ideal first medical contact (FMC)-to-device time system goal of 90 minutes or less.
